With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we take a look at how you can spoil that special someone this year.
Firstly, let’s remember that your already lucky enough to be out in the Paradiski for Valentine’s Day – maybe it was your good planning meaning you’re owed something special! Or maybe your other half planned the holiday, meaning you need to step up and sort out something special whilst you’re here! So whether you’re dropping hints or looking to plan something, we can help!
Get rid of the Kids!
If you’re traveling with family you might fancy the night off, which is fair enough! Try companies like Little Chicks in La Plagne who can offer private nannying in your chalet. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
Lets cover the basics…
Get a massage or spa treatment. There are loads of great places throughout Paradiski that offer luxurious treatments. From companies like Massage Me who will come to you and offer a wide range massages, facials and more to hotels with spas in them – like the Taj-I Mah in Les Arcs – the first 5* hotel in Paradiski. Make sure you book ahead as companies like this will get booked up fast!
Lunch or Dinner? Unlike back home, you are free for the day so needn’t be tied to just dinner. So how about a beautiful lunch on the mountain? There is little better than dining out in the sun, having skied all morning and watching the world go by in the Alps. Check out mountain-side restaurants like Vedons Sud, Bergerie, Roc de Blanchettes, Aux Bonne Vieux Temps in La Plagne or Chalet Les Arcs, Chalet Luigi in Les Arcs for excellent mountain food and service.
If dinner is more your fancy, you’ll be staying more grounded. Head to Le Grizzli for a warm welcome and excellent service; La Spatule for a great menu and quirky decoration or to Le Cocoon (4* hotel) with their new restaurant this winter for something a little more special. Le Cocoon is also offering a special glass of a Savoyarde Sparkling Wine for couples in love!
In Les Arcs, the Taj-I Mah hotel is offering a special Valentine’s Day dinner menu which will make you drool just reading it! 89€ for 5 courses. You could also combine this with a spa day there before hand if you fancy?
If you fancy staying in but eating like you are going out, you can also use a company like Huski who basically will do all the hard work for you and deliver an amazing meal to your doorstep. Check out our review here for more information.
You can always get flowers and chocolates delivered as well, Interflora always follow through. But when you’re leaving in a week, it often seems wasteful to buy flowers halfway into a holiday and then leave them behind (although the chalet staff do love them when you leave!).
For something a little more mountain themed you can always find great localised presents in the shopping centres. There are so many little bakeries, charcuterie, wine, cheese specialists in each village that you will be spoilt for choice. Online shops like My Mountain Boutique also have some really different items that you can personalise to your holiday or resort of choice.
A bit more out of the ordinary…
Fancy a night in an Igloo? BlackSheep Igloo Village in Plagne Villages ofter a pretty special experience. Head up there for a fondue and enjoy dinner at an ice table in an igloo for a really unique experience. Then, if you really fancy pushing the boat out, you can stay the night in one of their igloos. There are even some with glass roofs so you can watch the stars as you settle down to sleep. Definitely book this in advance as there are limited spaces available.
MoonLight Ski with companies like Oxygene in La Plagne. Head up the Grande Rochette last lift and enjoy dinner in the Chalet de la Rochette (with as much wine as you can drink!) and then ski down afterwards. If its moonlit you won’t need torches, but if it is darker then head torches are provided. This runs every week on a Wednesday so won’t be available on Valentine’s night but close enough! You can also do this with non-skiers and book the Taxi-Ski, but make sure this is requested far in advance. €80 per person.
Then for the adrenaline junkies…
Just get out there and do any of the après activities you can!
Bobsleigh– La Plagne for the speed daemons. From Mono-bob and heading down the ice on your own or Taxi-bob with a pro-driver.
Skidooing – around 95€ for 2 for an hour of blasting around the pistes in the dark
Parapenting – if you want to get up high, from 80€ + depending on length of flight
SuperLuge – 5kms of bumboarding racing your significant-other, can be fun or be grounds for divorce… Bookable with several ski schools for around 20/25€.
Super TyroLine – La Plagne for 20€ fly down the valley from Aime 2000 to Plagne Centre, open daily usually from 1 – 6pm.
You don’t have to be spending loads of money for someone to know you care! Quite often the gestures that cost nothing can make the most impact.
Snow writing – I had a friend who wrote “Dave you rock my world” in 2 foot letters in the snow outside their hotel so he saw it the following morning. Major cool points for this one.
Snow picnic – if you’ve got the weather for it, head back country and have a secluded picnic. France has some of the best and simplest food in for world. You can easily pick up excellent fois-gras, charcuterie, cheese, champagne and more at the local Spar or boutique and make your own fun.
Walks – there are loads of mountain trails you can follow which are really beautiful. So snow-shoe up and head out. Great for the non-skiers.
Après-Ski – Most bars will be doing something special for valentine’s. From champagne and oysters to fancy-dress nights, make sure you know what you’re heading to to avoid upset. As its Tuesday, Scotty’s La Plagne will be hosting the Domino’s for the usual Tequila Tuesday, best to avoid if you’re looking for something more up-market! Places like La Mine, Bar King Mad and El Latino Loco will definitely have something kicking off! Check out out events calendar here for more info on whats happening where and when.
