A massive thank you to everyone who took part in our fundraising event yesterday, we raised over €600 to donate to Riders for Refugees and most importantly collected an absolute mountain of jackets and warm clothing which can now be given to homeless and displaced people living in refugee camps around Europe.
Donations started pouring in to Scotty’s around lunchtime yesterday and didn’t stop all day long.
Ski and snowboard jackets, thermals, mid layers, snow boots, hats and gloves in all shapes and sizes began piling up around us with more people promising to drop off to us later in the week. This clothing is going to make a massive difference in the lives of people unfortunate enough to be living outside this winter so a massive thank you again to everyone who donated. If any one still has stuff to give please stop by Scotty’s any time this week as we’ll still be collecting for a few more days.
We hung out in the bar all day selling toffee vodka shots (which were kindly donated by Scotty’s) and offering glitter face paint to anyone who wanted it. It turns out a lot of people did and I’m sure there was a fair few people who woke up this morning with a sore head and glitter all over the pillow, don’t worry folks you were drinking and sparkling for a good cause!
We sold raffle tickets at the bargain rate of €2 a ticket and they flew out as soon as the crowd saw the awesome prizes we had on offer. Again the people of La Plagne really came through for us and we were able to offer 25 amazing prizes all donated by local shops and businesses. Oxygene ski school raffled off a snowboard taster lesson as well as a free go on their super luge derby. Planks Clothing gave us two ski jackets and some beanies. Alpaholics chalets donated hoodies, t-shirts, stomp pads and pistemap google wipes. Scotty’s bar also gave us a bottle of toffee vodka and a 50€ bar tab. The Super Tyro gave away two free tickets for their zip line and Polo from Labo ski and board shop in Bourg Saint Maurice came through in style with a collection of DC and Armada t-shirts and beanies as well as our main prize of the night – a €400 ski or snowboard voucher! This was won by one very lucky seasonaire Kayleigh who now needs to step up her game and learn to ski pronto!
Again huge thanks to all the people and businesses who gave their time and energy to help us with this event and who provided us with this awesome array of prizes, we definitely couldn’t have done it without your help. A special thank you to Emma from Planks clothing who donated four amazing retro ski outfits which quickly became the most coveted raffle prizes of the night!
Thank you to the people of La Plagne for coming down and packing Scotty’s to the rafters and partying hard all night long. Thank you of course to The Dominos who played two epic gigs and kept the crowd dancing for hours and lastly a huge thank you to Scotty’s bar for letting us hold the event in their venue, their bar staff for working insanely hard on such a busy night and for not complaining too much about all the glitter they had to clean up afterwards.
Watch this space for more events of this kind throughout the season, we’ll check in with Riders for Refugees about hosting another collection later in the season and let you know as soon as we plan anything.
One last thank you to everyone for making the collection such a success and for helping a lot of people keep warm this winter.
Thank you all.
