What a day! It looked like a repeat of yesterday with colder temperatures but today was truly special.
We had 15cm of fresh snow overnight, which topped up 4 days of continuous snowfall and powder skiing could be found everywhere. The lighter wind meant some more chairlifts could open including the Mont Blanc chair, which gave access to some fantastic piste and off piste skiing. The Pisteurs did a great job of leaving a portion of the piste ungroomed meaning perfect conditions for those learning their first powder turns.
Visibility was still variable so the trees were still the best bet and as the cloud began to lift around lunchtime what a spectacle unfolded. After the poor start to a consecutive winter I had thought I might never see the true beauty of winter again but today was definitely one of the most beautiful of the season.
For those who were beginning to lose their faith, today was the day to rediscover it. Perfect snow, perfect sun and perfect scenery. The Transarc has now reopened connecting all of Les Arcs. The Pisteurs continue their fine work of securing the domain, which included the huge avalanches they triggered clearing the Aiguille Rouge. I think it will still be some time before that opens and the Grand Col as there is a huge amount of wind affected snowfall.
The next week should be incredible skiing so stay safe and enjoy it!
