Alpine Legends Superpass Delayed

If you’re wondering when you can buy one of the much-hyped Alpine Legends Superpasses – it looks like you’ll have to wait till next year. The launch of Alpine Legends, billed as ‘the ultimate ski pass’ with access to 3 ski areas (Espace Killy, Paradiski & 3 Valleys), has been delayed, we hear.

The project grabbed headlines in the ski press when it was announced earlier this year. The idea of trying to ride 5 glaciers and over 1300km of piste in 6 days captured the imagination – and no-one likes a challenge better than a skier or snowboarder! It would be one of the world’s largest ski areas covered by a single pass – and one of the most expensive at €340.

Its website is still online, but the “buy now” button redirects you to each resort’s own website, where Alpine Legends is not listed as an option. We were wondering whether there was a problem, and have now had it confirmed by 2 of the ski areas that the pass will not be available this year. We don’t know why yet.

The launch of the pass had caused controversy. In previous years, your 6-day Espace Killy pass got you a free day in Paradiski and vice versa, so if you wanted to do a day-trip to try out a different area you could. The Superpass replaced that option – giving you more flexibility but at an increased price. Most people who come for a week’s holiday will need the full week to really explore just the ski area they arrive in. The Superpass really catered for the regular hardcore skiers who want to tour the whole Tarentaise – staying a couple of days in each ski area.

We’re waiting to find out whether the free day in another ski area will be back as a feature of your 6-day pass this winter.
